When you’re choosing your wedding day flowers, there are a few things to consider. Consider the colors available, the price and the season. For example; you’ll be hard pressed to find dahlias for your early spring wedding. But, gerbera daisies can be found year round.
Lets talk pricing and budget.
Working with a local florist is the best way to make your vision come to life within your budget. Many can give creative suggestions on how to include your favorite flowers with any budget. But they can also give you realistic expectations for the budget you’re working with.
Flowers like daisies, sunflowers and zinnias are going to be budget friendly. While peonies, hydrangeas and lilies will all be a bit pricier. Our biggest tips; spend the biggest part of your flower budget on the bridal bouquet. It shows up in so many of your photos and so many of our brides have said they we’re so glad they budgeted well for this. Money saving tip, re-purpose ceremony floral arrangements from your ceremony at your reception. You can use the the arrangement that was on your ceremony arch as the focal piece at the head table like this Bride did.
Not planning on having floral arrangements at the ceremony? Use pretty vases or mason jars at the head table and place your bouquet along with Bridesmaids bouquets in them at the reception for easy decor.
Okay, lets talk seasons.
Here’s a break down of some great floral choices by season.
Spring: Garden roses, dahlias, and zinnias, hydrangas.
Summer: Sunflowers, Gerbera daisies, roses, zinnias.
Fall: Calla Lily, Sunflowers, peonies, orchids.
Winter: Ranuculus, Tulips, rose, calla lilies.
You’ll also want to consider the weather on your big day. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony and it will be warm choose hardier flowers that will withstand the heat. I’ve seen it one too many times when delicate flowers look sad and wilted by the time the Bride is walking back down the aisle. Your florist can help you decide which flowers will work best for your wedding environment. Weather can also determine the style of reception centerpieces for outdoor weddings. If wind is even a possibility consider low heavy weighted centerpieces over tall and light. You don’t want to spend money on centerpieces that can’t be used because of wind.
